Wireframing with InDesign and Illustrator

I’ve started a series of articles on the framework we use at Messagefirst for creating wireframes or behavior/design specifications. The first article, titled Wireframing With InDesign and Illustrator, can be found over at UX Matters.

InDesign and Illustrator are my current preferred tools for wireframing (and additional documentation that I usually include in the same deliverable).

I’m really looking forward to your next article. I’m especially curious about your strategy for reusable objects. I’m never sure whether a given object should be handled in a master, placed illustrator file or kept in a snippet in adobe bridge. In fact which parts you do in InDesign and which in Illustrator in general will be very interesting to see.

Have you written a functional spec reusing these objects?

    Hi Todd,

Did I overlook the final two installments of your series, ““InDesign Basics: Maximizing InDesign for Wireframing” & “Pulling It All Together: In Practice”, or are these still works in progress? Looking forward to them, as there isn’t an overabundance of literature out there on using InDesign for wireframing.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Todd,

I too am looking for the final two installments of your “InDesign Basics” series. Please tell me they are somewhere. I was so excited to read the first two.

    Thanks,
    Suzie

    Greetings Todd,
I’ve carefully read, and soon hope to apply the knowledge I have gained from your wireframing guidelines. I am particularly excited with the prospects of combininig Illustrator and InDesign. In any case, I am only a novice at Illustrator, and would like to learn InDesign. I am sincerely intersted in reading your article, “InDesign Basics: Maximizing InDesign for Wireframing”. I hope to read your new book, and hope to read this next installment. If you have any suggestions on getting familiar with these tools please share. Thank you for your generous information! Best, Shilpa

They’re coming, but probably not until this Sumer after my Prototyping book is done.
